BCCI Warns IPL Teams of Suspicious Businessman from Hyderabad

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued a strong advisory to all Indian Premier League (IPL) stakeholders, warning them about a Hyderabad-based businessman allegedly involved in corrupt activities. The individual is reportedly attempting to establish connections with players, team officials, and other personnel through questionable means.

In a communication shared with IPL franchises, the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) has raised concerns that the businessman, known to have ties with punters and bookies, is attempting to lure participants with expensive gifts and lavish gestures. His past involvement in corrupt practices has been well-documented, prompting the BCCI to take preemptive action to safeguard the integrity of the tournament.

The ACSU believes that the individual is approaching IPL members under the guise of being a fan. He has allegedly been spotted at match venues and team hotels, attempting to get close to players, coaching staff, and even commentators. Reports suggest that he is inviting them to private parties and offering luxury gifts, including jewellery—not only to the personnel but also to their family members.

One particularly concerning method involves targeting the families of franchise owners, players, and coaches, sometimes reaching out to relatives abroad through social media. There have been reports of him offering to escort family members to upscale jewellery stores and luxury hotels, pretending to be an admirer of the team or individual.

The ACSU has advised all stakeholders—team owners, players, coaching and support staff, and even media professionals—to remain vigilant. Any suspicious interactions or engagements should be immediately reported to the ACSU.

The BCCI reiterated its commitment to upholding the sanctity of the sport and emphasized the increased challenges posed by advancing technology. It urged everyone involved in the IPL ecosystem to remain cautious and cooperate fully in efforts to prevent any breach of integrity within the league.
