Delhi Capitals Pip Rajasthan Royals in Thrilling Super Over Finish

In a match that had fans on the edge of their seats, Delhi Capitals clinched a dramatic win over Rajasthan Royals in the first Super Over of IPL 2025 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, on Wednesday, April 16. With the scores tied at the end of regulation play, DC held their nerve in the one-over shootout to sneak home with a win on the fourth ball.

Chasing a target of 12 in the Super Over, Delhi sent out KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs to face Sandeep Sharma. Stubbs made it count, sealing the game in emphatic fashion with a six, ensuring the Capitals crossed the finish line in style.

Rajasthan, batting first in the Super Over, managed 11 runs in five balls. Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer were the chosen pair but couldn’t stay till the end. Parag was run out on the fourth delivery, followed by Jaiswal getting dismissed in similar fashion on the very next ball, cutting their innings short.

Earlier in the evening, the Royals had every chance to seal the win in regular play. Chasing 189, they needed just 13 runs off the final nine balls with Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel at the crease. But a combination of nerves and disciplined bowling from DC meant Rajasthan could only manage a single off the final ball, forcing the game into a Super Over.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Rana were the top scorers for Rajasthan, both notching up fifties. Jaiswal anchored the innings after skipper Sanju Samson had to retire hurt due to a rib injury. Despite being in control for most of the chase, the Royals faltered at the crucial moment.

For Delhi, the total of 188 was built on solid contributions throughout the batting order. Abhishek Porel led the way with a fluent 49, while KL Rahul chipped in with a steady 38 off 32 on a sluggish surface. A late surge from Axar Patel, Tristan Stubbs, and Ashutosh Sharma gave the Capitals a competitive total to defend.

This thrilling win propels Delhi further up the table, while Rajasthan will be left ruing a missed opportunity in a match they had almost wrapped up.
